- Power (Doubles Only)- Players will pass, set, spike, block, dig, overhand serve, and jump serve
- Intermediate - Setting ball up consistently and making plays. Pass, set, spike and block
- Recreational - Beginner level. Working on the basics, just starting out and learning
- Each match will consist of three games to 15 points, must win by 2 points.
- Maximum 21 points.
- If the third game is not completed by the time the hour is up, then the scoring will change to rally point scoring until completed.
- Each team is entitled to one timeout per game. The timeout shall last for 30 seconds.
- Games are forfeited as follows
- 10 minutes after scheduled game time, the match is forfeited
- All leagues are self officiated
- Boundary lines consist of two end lines and two sidelines marking the playing court.
- A ball is considered in if when landing on the ground it makes any contact with the boundary lines.
- A ball is considered out if it makes contact with anything outside the boundary lines The net posts shall act as the antennas on balls traveling from one side of the court to the other. If a ball passes outside the post or hits the post it is considered out of play and a side out or point is awarded.
- Server must serve from anywhere behind the end line and between the extensions of the sidelines and may not step on or over the end line.
- Ball may be served underhand or overhand. In recreational and intermediate you are limited to three overhand serves, after which one underhand serve must preceed three more overhand serves.
- Jump serve allowed in doubles leagues only.
- A let serve is allowed and is playable (a let serve is a ball that touches the net and continues over the net to the opponents side).
- First game service is determined by a volley, each subsequent game service shall be determined by previous game loser.
- Players must maintain service rotation. Once the ball is contacted, on the serve, players may switch positions on the court.
- RECREATIONAL/INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE - when a player serves 3 consecutive, successful overhand serves they must switch to an underhand serve 1 time, then they can switch back to an overhand serve.
- No blocking or attacking a serve at the net
- Team will rotate in a clockwise manner each time they win the serve
- In coed play, at least half of the players, on each team, on the court must be female
- Unlimited number of rotations may occur. Rotate into the middle back position only (male for male, female for female)
- Players must maintain service rotation. Once the ball is contacted, on the serve, players may switch positions on the court.
- Each team is entitled to a maximum of three hits to return the ball to the opponents
- Blocking does not constitute a team contact, and any player may make the first contact of the ball after the block
- If two or more non-blocking teammates contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one contact and the players involved may participate in the next play
- If two opponents simultaneously contact the ball over the net, the ball remains in play and the team receiving the ball is entitled to another three contacts. It the ball lands out, it is the fault of the team on the opposite side of the net from where the ball lands
- While blocking , a player may touch the ball beyond the net, provided the player does not interfere with the opponents play before or after the attack-hit
- Back row players may not block or attack at the net
- A player may touch the ball with any part of the body. The ball must be contacted cleanly and not held, lifted, pushed, caught, carried, or thrown. The ball cannot or roll or come to a rest on any part of a players body
- A player may not hit the ball twice in succession
- In coed play a female must hit the ball at least once, if more than one hit is used. Players are allowed to step or reach under the net as long as they do not interfere with the play of the opposing players
- A ball may be played off the net.
- When a ball is driven into the net causing the net to contact a player, no fault is committed.
- Teams change sides of court after each game
- Captains are responsible for reporting and verifying scores at desk
- Four hits
- Reaching over the net if it interferes with the opponents play or attack
- Stepping on or over the line on a serve
- Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully
- Serving out of service order
- Hitting the ball illegally (carrying, palming, throwing, etc.)
- Touching the net with any part of the body while ball is in play unless the net is pushed into you
- Stepping or reaching under the net if it interferes with opposing players
- Failure to serve in correct order
- Back row players may not block or spike in front of the 10 ft. line
- A player may not go into another court to make a play on a ball
- Fighting, taunting or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Fighting will result in automatic ejection from the match for the players involved.
